What is a 24 ACT score?

A 24 ACT composite ranks at the 80th percentile nationally, meaning about 80% of recent ACT-tested high school graduates scored at or below a 24. That is ACT's own national rank for tests taken between September 2026 and August 2027.

At a 24 there is real room in every section, and the fastest gains usually come from whole topics rather than from careless errors. Scoring about 24 in each of the three scored sections allows roughly 42 wrong answers in total. Four ways to build a 24

A composite is the average of English, Math and Reading, so the same 24 can come from very different section shapes. If one section is your strength, the other two carry less. Here is what each shape actually demands in questions answered correctly.

Raw targets use a representative conversion curve, so treat them as close estimates. ACT builds a slightly different curve for every test form. Science is optional on the Enhanced ACT and is reported separately, so it does not enter the composite.

Where the cheapest point is at a 24

The conversion curve is not evenly spaced. At a 24 the same single extra correct answer is worth a different amount depending on which section it lands in:

The curve is coarsest near the top of the scale, which is why a single question can move a section score by two points there and by one in the middle. These are Prep36 estimates, not a published cutoff.
